FAQ's
Do I need to be an experienced singer?
Not at all! There is no need to have any previous experience of singing to join these sessions. The aim is to collectively enjoy the benefits of singing in a group, whether this is something you have done before or it is the first time for you. Everyone has their own story when it comes to singing, often it can be an emotional one - perhaps you were told you couldn't sing as a child, or perhaps you have been classically trained! I believe if you were born with a voice, it is your birthright to use it to sing, no matter what it sounds like!! We each have our own unique voice, and that is what makes singing together in this way so rich, so connecting and so affirming.
Do I need to read music?
We all learn in different ways. To give space for everyone to learn at the same pace, I always teach by ear. There will be no use of sheet music during the sessions. There will sometimes be song lyric sheets, so if you need to please do bring glasses.
Who can come to Grief Choir?
Grief Choir is an open-hearted, uplifting space that offers a supportive community for people navigating grief to come together and sing. It is open to anyone who is grieving or has been affected by grief. This includes those who have experienced the loss of a loved one, as well as individuals dealing with other forms of grief, such as loss of health, relationships, or life transitions. I aim to create an inclusive environment that welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds, ensuring accessibility and acceptance for all. If you identify with this in any way, you are welcome to come to Grief Choir.
Can I talk about my grief in this session?
The sessions will be very informal, and you are welcome to chat about all or anything, including anything you wish to share around your grief, at the start of our session. After that, the focus will be on singing in harmony with others to help process grief through the proven health benefits of group singing. Grief can be isolating. When we sing with others we feel safe, accepted and connected. Sometimes it is hard to put our grief into words. Singing can help us communicate those feelings without the need to find words. Grief Choir offers the chance to be part of a wider grief community, whether you wish to talk or not.
I can't afford this amount, can I still come?
There are a small number of subsidised places on offer, for those who are unable to afford the tiered payment system, or who have been referred or socially prescribed. Please contact me directly to access this: j_warlow@hotmail.com

It's hard to put into words how joyful and transformative singing with Jannah is. I'm not normally comfortable or confident singing. Jannah creates a respectful, safe and playful space for us to make and experience sound together. Jannah lovingly guides our sounds to meld together in a way that unites our combined sound and creates a euphoric experience that doesn't expose or make anyone feel vulnerable in the process. For me, the vibrations created during the singing process somehow help me to feel and move through grief in the moment. There is a sense of comfort and community from singing together without needing to discuss grief. It's simply a beautiful experience and I feel very lucky to be able to experience it.
