A safe, supportive and uplifting space for people living with grief to sing together.

Grief Choir offers breathing tools and vocal techniques for wellbeing, and gentle, simple songs to sing in harmony with others.

Perhaps you are grieving the loss, death or separation of a loved one. Or perhaps you are grieving a part of yourself. Grief Choir offers a supportive community for anyone navigating grief.

Singing with others not only releases endorphins and helps us feel calm, it can also promote feelings of acceptance and connection, nurturing a sense of safety and community.

Supported by Bristol Beacon, Grief Choir is led by professional singing leader Jannah Warlow, who has over 20 years experience leading community singing events, workshops and choirs. Having experienced the healing benefits of singing on her own bereavement journey, she is deeply committed to Grief Choir providing a space of solace and connection through the power of communal singing.

Everything is taught by ear, there is no sheet music and no previous singing experience is required!

Bursary places available for those from marginalised communities or facing barriers to access — no explanation needed.  Please see FAQ’s for more info.

It's hard to put into words how joyful and transformative singing with Jannah is.  I'm not normally comfortable or confident singing.  Jannah creates a respectful, safe and playful space for us to make and experience sound together.  Jannah lovingly guides our sounds to meld together in a way that unites our combined sound and creates a euphoric experience that doesn't expose or make anyone feel vulnerable in the process. For me, the vibrations created during the singing process somehow help me to feel and move through grief in the moment. There is a sense of comfort and community from singing together without needing to discuss grief.  It's simply a beautiful experience and I feel very lucky to be able to experience it.

Seasonal Grief Choir Gatherings are a warm and welcoming invitation for a growing community to come together, connect, and strengthen the bonds formed through shared song and experience.

Held in rhythm with the seasons, each gathering invites participants, both new and returning, to reflect, remember, and sing in a supportive and familiar environment. With gentle grounding exercises, soaring harmonies, and simple, inclusive rituals, we create space for grief to be held and shared.

These gatherings offer comfort, connection, and a chance to deepen trust and togetherness. As we return each season, we nurture a sense of belonging and deep presence through the power of singing together.

Grief Choir is absolutely wonderful! It has been incredible to be able to give some space for my grief in such a beautiful, moving and often uplifting way. Jannah is a fabulous facilitator and holds the space with warmth and tenderness - she always makes me feel as if I am welcome to be just as I am. This Autumn we are piloting ‘Meet & Sing’ - Grief Choir's lighter-touch monthly gathering: a gentle, social space where grief doesn't have to be the first thing through the door. We'll sing simple songs in harmony, taught entirely by ear, and take our time doing it.

Whether you're a regular Grief Choir member or someone curious to try it for the first time, you are very welcome here. These can be attended as stand alone, one off sessions, as a way of dipping back in to re-connect, or as a way of trying out Grief Choir and seeing if it is the right thing for you. 

These sessions will take place at the Trinity Centre, a local community hub in a beautiful building in the heart of East Bristol.

Pop-Up Grief Choirs

A gently and beautifully held space. The songs were simple to pick up and it was lovely to sing with a group of people travelling along their own paths with grief.

Come as you are. No experience needed, no performance expected — just a relaxed morning of singing together, a cup of something warm, and good company.
